Writing a blog post has been on my to do list for about a week now. Although I don’t do it enough, I think writing about your ideas is a good practice to get into as an artist.
Lately I’ve been working on a brand new set of paintings. There’s a few fresh idea too. I feel like I want to move on and develop, not quite go in a different direction but to take some ideas that have been lingering into full expansion.
2016 was mostly about postcard paintings for me, I had a lot of fun doing them and learnt so much through the process. I cracked out new ideas that surprised me. I now want to take some of those ideas and a combine several of them into paintings.
I also been painting on the same material I used in the postcard painting series, but just bigger sheets. These are sheets of paper designed specially for oil paint. I love them because of the flexibility and practicality of them. Not only are they easy to store, but they’re easy to transport and hang. I absolutely love the texture of them, paint moves so freely across it, sliding and scratching into a thick wet under layers. It’s great fun. The best part is, unlike a canvas wrapped around a frame, I can easily place this in my big black portfolio case and take it places. They’re light.
However, I’ve also been working on canvas. And made another frame today ready to stretch canvas over tomorrow.
